First of all, we would like to thank the leadership of KFU for the opportunity to study at the summer school of the Russian language. A special thanks to Darya Alexandrovna Ivanova for her tremendous support and especially to Airat Ilgizarovich Ibatullin for his kind and warm attitude toward us, the students.Since we were a small group, the teacher gave us maximum attention. There were days when we sat in the classroom studying Russian grammar and new vocabulary, discussing Russia and Slovakia. But there were also many days when the teacher organized excursions for us to interesting places in Kazan. This was completely unexpected and amazing for us.The teacher acted as our guide, sharing interesting facts about the history and present of the city of Kazan, the Republic of Tatarstan, and Russia—all in Russian. This way, we naturally picked up additional vocabulary in practice. We visited numerous landmarks (mosques, Orthodox churches, the island-town of Sviyazhsk...), interesting modern sites (the Temple of All Religions, parks, the metro, the embankments of the Kazanka and Volga rivers, the library, the Ferris wheel, Lake Kaban, etc.), and cultural events (the "Itil" festival, a circus performance, a concert by the Kazan Chamber Orchestra...). We also tried various Russian and Tatar dishes and treats.We were truly amazed by how clean, developed, and safe Kazan is! Unforgettable was the farewell party with tea and Tatar and Slovak delicacies—we brought home strong impressions and the conviction that the Russian people and culture are very close to us. We enjoyed every moment and highly recommend everyone to have such an experience. We definitely want to return to Russia!
